Hurricane Beryl Update: Port Louis Marina, Grenada

The team and berth holders at Port Louis Marina are safe and well, and there is minimal reported hurricane damage to the yachts or marina facilities at present.

The marina followed the Government guidelines and closed the marina 24hrs before the hurricane was anticipated to hit land in Grenada.

The team also followed the lengthy Port Louis Marina Hurricane Plan for 2024 and many additional internal protocols.

Everyone worked tirelessly in very unpredictable circumstances to ensure the safety of each other, the community within the marina, and the berthed yachts.

Our thoughts are with Carriacou Island which saw the eye of Hurricane Beryl, and we will set about a plan to help provide aid and resources to our closest neighbours.

Furthermore, this morning the marina was open to the Carriacou Relief Operation who were collecting basic supplies to send to Carriacou & Petite Martinique. The local businesses and community close to the marina has contributed with donating supplies including water and clothing.

Port Louis Marina donated hurricane supplies including medical kits, water and tinned foods.

We are further researching the best way to get more substantial aid to the islands, but it will likely be in co-ordination with the Red Cross as they are the only NGO on the ground at present. There are many, many yacht owners and crew willing to help deliver to these otherwise fairly remote locations.

It is a reminder of how the yachting community consistently pull together in times of crisis.

We shall inform you, as soon as possible, how best to help or donate to those that have lost so much in the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.
